Week 5 blog post

I wasn't sure what to title this one so I just used the week number. There is a link below that has my pictures I manipulated this week for the assignment. One is my drawing from the previous week. I downloaded Picasa then used sepia on one of them, softened edges, added borders to some of them, changed one to look like an aged picture. I was having a lot of fun with it so I did more than the 2 we were assigned.

  1. Your blog assignment was to also reflect about the readings assigned about iPod art and iPod stories...could you do that too?

  2. I knew I was forgetting something. Sorry about that. I'm on it this morning after little dude eats his breakfast. I also went to the DMV this morning thinking I needed to renew my license only to find out it's good until 2014.

  3. I'm copying and pasting part of the blog assignment here: "Since this week you will be working with photo manipulation tools for your own class project you can blog about the experience of creating art in The Cloud, digitally, and/or using your phone to make art. Talk about what this might mean to the art world in general? Are you a phone photographer?"

When I saw and/or I thought we could pick one or the other. I didn't realize we had to do both. I'm not that impressed by the iphone art. Yes it looks nice. Yes the artists did a good job. But our entire world is becoming digital. People need to be careful how much they come to depend on the internet and smartphones etc. People as a whole will be in huge trouble if all these things fail.

I did miss the step about what I think it will mean for the art world in general. My thoughts on that are probably not going to win me any favor points with digital artists but I don't like where the art world is headed. I enjoy seeing a real painting or drawing done with paper, canvas, pencils, paint etc. I like being able to touch something other than a flat screen when I create a piece of artwork. The feel of a paintbrush moving in my hand is relaxing. The feel of a computer mouse or iphone in my hand sends my stress levels sky rocketing.

  4. Forgot to add I use a phone to take pics if I have nothing else available but still prefer a camera with film.

  5. I'm so with you on art, but I also love using Photoshop and other manipulators to play with the photos I take. I've just begun using this software to tweak source photos for my paintings, and sometimes get some great ideas for my paintings while tweaking the photo using software. I think digital apps are just one of many tools in an artist's toolbox and love to get messy and smear paint!
